Aberfeldy 16-Year-Old was released in 2015 as part of The Last Great Malts series.
Laid to rest for 16 years in handmade oak casks, this enriched offering is matured in a combination of bourbon and first fill Oloroso sherry casks, to impart a subtle fruitful nature and a roundness to the whisky.
16-year-old single malt from the fantastic Aberfeldy distillery, unveiled in the latter half of 2015 as part of the Last Great Malts series.
Soft notes of honey, freshened with citrus, which gives way to spiced pears, studded with cloves, and drizzled with caramel. On the palate this well-balanced dram is at first sweet and rich like fruit cake but ends satisfyingly with a hint of dark chocolate. Longer fermentation for honeyed richness. Aberfeldy whiskies are produced using a long fermentation, up to 70 hours, which gives them a rich, honeyed, and fruity flavor long established as the house style.
Nose: Raisins and cinnamon at first, before moving onto butterscotch, caramel and apple slice. A touch of floral malt, too.
Palate: Well-rounded and mellow, but not lazy at all. More apple at first, soon joined by clementine segments and honey on toast. A spark of ginger.
Finish: Waxy peels and oak.
