Every bottle of Greek Lightning™ starts out in sun-kissed Kalamata, where the illustrious Callicounis Distillery has been producing the world’s best liqueurs for more than 150 years. There, the liqueur is distilled and then infused with organic grape honey from the orange blossom trees at the foot of Sparta’s Taygetos Mountains. From there, it’s blended with our secret mixture of aromatic flavors and spices including nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon bark. We never add preservatives or artificial flavor enhancers — each luxurious sip contains 24% alcohol by volume and 100% all-natural ingredients.

Knob Creek is one of the particular “small batch” brands of Beam-Suntory. Along with its sister labels — Booker’s, Baker’s, and Basil Hayden’s — it’s tailored to the more discriminating Bourbon-lover (and that means YOU). The Knob Creek brand first launched in 1992, and since then they have changed it very little. It has remained dedicated to reproducing a pre-Prohibition style Bourbon experience with a higher ABV that makes it a Bourbon-of-Choice for discriminating cocktail aficionados everywhere, while winning awards and turning heads.

To tell you all about Knob Creek Quarter Oak we have to tell you about Whiskey barrels. Barrels are hard to get and expensive — every Spirits-producer on the planet wants them. Big barrels hold more using less wood per volume, so they are on-average cheaper to use. Small casks give better Spirit to wood contact, so the aging process is faster and more flavor gets into the Spirit. Knob Creek Quarter Oak is that wonderful Knob Creek signature Bourbon that we LOVE, but some of it has rested in small, quarter-sized casks; this means that the vanilla and caramel flavors shine out even more.

Smartass corner:

The math of barrel sizing takes us back to high-school geometry. Barrels are roughly cylinder-shaped. Since the volume of a cylinder = pi times, the radius squared times height, a small increase in radius means a significant increase in size. In other words, a little more wood holds a lot more Whiskey.
