Loch Lomond Whiskies has celebrated the beginning of a five-year partnership with The Open in the best way possible: by releasing three new highly covetable limited edition single malts!

The first in the collection is the Loch Lomond The Open Special Edition, which was created to celebrate golf’s original championship and, as such, is presented in a distinctive golf themed gift box. Master blender Michael Henry crafted this single malt to display four different spirit styles.

This Open Special Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a limited-edition from Loch Lomond, created in collaboration with Scottish professional golfer Colin Montgomerie.

Matured in three different types of American oak casks, before a partial finish in Virgin American Oak, the 2021 Open Special Edition delivers an approachable single malt with underlying fruit character and a gentle hint of peat smoke.

Loch Lomond Distillery was commissioned by the Littlemill Distilling Company in 1964 with first distillation in 1966. In 1984, the distillery closed - or fell silent, to use the traditional term. Happily though, Alexander Bulloch and the Glen Catrine company acquired the business and resumed malt production in 1987. Grain whisky production began in 1993 and two new malt stills were added in 1999.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Lovely tropical fruits like one can expect when drinking Loch Lomond. (Dried) Apricot and cantaloupe melon. After this there is a sea of sweet flavors like sultana’s, vanilla, caramel fudge, butterscotch and honey. In the background I get Dutch candy flavors with licorice and laurel.

Taste: A great full, sweet and buttery body with again loads of tropical and sweet candy-like flavors. It’s gentle, balanced and pleasant. It really focuses on the sweet side of the plate, giving . Simply lovely.

Finish: A great medium/long finish with flavors of nougat and peanuts. A great touch of smoke gets in at this part. It really compliments the experience.
