Benriach Peated Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750 ML

In 2016 Speyside Distillery Benriach released the first batch in their Peated Cask Strength series. So, peated in contrast to their usual single malt whisky. And at cask strength (here 56%). The malt matured in small (quarter) and Oloroso sherry casks.

The Benriach Cask Strength series presents an opportunity to enjoy Benriach in its most natural and non-diluted form, providing an unadulterated glimpse into the spirit of the Benriach Distillery. Batch 2 Peated evokes the true experimental style of Benriach with an eclectic combination of cask strength whisky.

The Benriach Peated Cask Strength Batch 2 Single Malt Scotch is a rich and smoky whisky with a cask strength intensity. It showcases the distillery's peated spirit, filled into American bourbon barrels and then enhanced with a combination of Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. This single malt exudes complexity and depth with its bold peaty notes and hints of dried fruits.

The malted barley used to make Benriach Peated Cask Strength Batch 2 Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been smoked with Highland peat, enriching the whisky with notes of smoked apple wood. It has been bottled at its natural state, and at cask strength, so it can be experienced as if sampled at the source: straight from the cask.

This multifaceted expression matured in bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry casks, before the whisky from these two woods is expertly blended by our Master Blender, Rachel Barrie. Each cask type adds to the taste experience; with notes of butterscotch, Brazil nut toffee and pine resin, layered over bellowing peat embers.

Tasting Notes:

Aromas of baked brioche, coconut and subtle peat make for a refined nose. This scotch is remarkably smooth on the palate, belying its alcohol content with flavors of yogurt covered almonds, banana custard, and ginger snaps before a velvety finish.
