Diplomático Planas is a unique white rum aged for up to six years. Named after the distillery’s location, it draws a smooth and complex flavor from this privileged land. Fresh and tropical aromas lead on to slightly fruity and creamy flavors and a delicate yet pronounced finish.
This rum is the replacement for Diplomático 's Blanco Reserva. Aged for six years, the same as its predecessor, the strength has been upped to 47%. The result is a rich and chewy rum with notes of cappuccino and a nutty finish. Ideal for upgrading classic white rum cocktails like Daiquiri, Piña Colada, Rum Martini or Espresso Martini. It’s also perfect for pairing with a zesty ceviche or fresh seafood. Best served neat or on the rocks.
Due to Venezuelan law, rum cannot be bottled until it is as least two years old. However, in this case some of the rums are aged up to six years in ex-bourbon barrels. The blend is then charcoal filtered up to six times, removing all colour and creating a very refined, texturally-rich white rum, perfect for serving on the rocks as well as, of course, in your classic Mojitos and Daiquiris.
Diplomatic Planas rum is an elegant and rich blend that is surprisingly intense for a white rum. An unexpected explosion of favors and aromas that are balanced by this rum's delicate smoothness. The rum is fresh and tropical with notes of coffee and coconut that lead to slightly fruity and creamy flavors. The extraordinary balance of this exquisite rum provides a delicate and pronounced finish.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Sweet initially, with marshmallows and barley sugar picking up pleasantly sour citrus notes as the rum sits in the glass. Buttery notes and a hint of mint develop over time.
Palate: The barley sugar from the nose leads on the palate, closely followed by candied citrus zest and sherbert lemons. Rich toffee notes come in behind that, contrasting with peppermint creams and grassy spice.
Finish: Short and sweet, with a burst of fluffy marshmallow quickly fading to soft spice and a hint of clove.
