Heavy rainfall towards the end of the preceding year set the stage for the southern Rhone’s 2019 growing season, providing enough precipitation to balance out the hot and dry summer. These conditions brought grapes in Chateauneuf-du-Pape to the peak of phenolic ripeness, endowing Florian Mathieu’s Grenache-dominant ‘Selection’ bottling with substantial fruit flavors and an elegant structure.
